Associate Director of DevelopmentShirley Vilca is Rock the Vote’s Associate Director of Development, where she helps lead and manage major gifts, board development, foundation giving, small donor programs, and fundraising.
Shirley’s diverse background includes case management work with refugee and incarcerated youth, education equity through community organizing, partnering with educators and school boards to deliver LGBTQ literature access to students, and even volunteering as a crisis counselor for LGBTQ youth. Prior to joining Rock the Vote, Shirley worked in Communications at an L.A. based social justice foundation. There she used her expertise and background to help strengthen and advance their work in philanthropy, grantmaking, policy development, and fundraising. Outside of her work life, Shirley volunteers as a board member for Building Allies, an organization working to advance Transgender advocacy work nationwide.
Shirley earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from the Evergreen State College and a Master’s in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from Antioch University. She credits the social justice focus of both institutes for her commitment and drive for systems change work.
