DemROCKracy Band Competition rewards leading band with Gibson Guitar
Today the DemROCKracy band competition is awarding Jackie Venson (http://www.myspace.com/jackievenson) of Austin, TX a SG Special Guitar for generating the most voter registrations in the competition thus far.
The competition is encouraging bands with a MySpace page to reach out to their fans by asking them to register to vote. The band that registers the most voters through Rock the Vote’s voter registration tool on MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/rockthevote) will win prizes including Gibson guitars and the chance to perform on a major concert stage.
Jackie is an 18-year-old high school senior who will vote in her first election this fall. “I think it’s really great that a competition has finally rolled around where we can get a prize for doing something that actually matters, Jackie said” “I am participating because of course I want to have that opportunity to perform, but also because this election will decide what problems and privileges my generation will have to deal with and I want my generation to be a part of that decision.”
Halfway through the competition we have over 3,000 bands signed up so far and thousands of new registered voters. The competition ends on August 14 giving newcomers plenty of time to make an impact and become a contender.
