No Offseason for Democracy

Athletes have a long history of raising awareness and inspiring action.

That’s why Rock the Vote teams up with those in the sports world to empower a new generation and spread the message that there is no offseason for democracy.

WNBPA

Rock the Vote first joined forces with the WNBPA in 2018 to amplify resources and information around the midterm elections and highlight attacks on our freedom to vote. Players were featured in a PSA video about the importance of voting and recruited WNBA teams to post to social media and on gametime jumbotrons to encourage fans to participate in the 2018 midterms.

In 2020, players wore voting-themed shirts and masks, posted to social media, and participated in Instagram Live broadcasts to share critical information and resources to help voters navigate the 2020 Election. The WNBPA and Rock the Vote released a PSA featuring “The Voting Playbook” that aired on ESPN and TNT.

Players wore Our Freedom to Vote shirts during the 2021 season to amplify critical federal voting rights legislation.

NFL Votes

On the Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the NFL launched NFL Votes in 2020 to support and encourage civic engagement of active and retired players, club and league personnel, and fans. Rock the Vote served as the League’s premier nonprofit partner providing voter education and registration sessions to League personnel and Legends, collaborating on PSAs and messaging, and powering the NFL Votes Election Center to register and mobilize voters to participate in the civic process.

Rock the Vote partnered with 13 teams producing voter education and registration sessions for players and club personnel, collaborating on PSAs and social media posts, hosting voter registration drives, recruiting poll workers, supporting stadiums as poll sites, and more.

Rock the Vote celebrated Kick off the Vote weekend during games from Thursday Night Football through Monday Night Football throughout the final weekend before the 2020 Election. As part of the final rush before Election Day, players sported Vote shirts during warm up and posted to social media; clubs displayed on-field VOTE stencils; and in-stadium and on-air announcers amplified the message about the importance of voting in the 2020 election.

Hoopers Vote

We introduced Hoopers Vote as a movement built to leverage the power of basketball culture and to drive action both on and off the court. Launching the week of National Voter Registration Day 2020, Hoopers Vote activated retired and active professional and college players, coaches, basketball media personalities, and celebrity superfans in several coordinated media blitzes throughout the 2020 Election and GA Runoff Election to guide young hoopers and fans through The Voting Playbook from registering to voting.
