Planned Parenthood and Rock the Vote to Host Inauguration Party Featuring Delta Rae, Q-Tip

WASHINGTON — As Americans gather to celebrate the second inauguration of President Barack Obama, Planned Parenthood and Rock the Vote will host a party celebrating the power of young people featuring a performance by band Delta Rae and a DJ set by legendary recording artist Q-Tip. Hosted by actors Tatyana Ali, Alexis Bledel, Aisha Tyler and Kate Walsh – along with Planned Parenthood Action Fund and Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Cecile Richards, Rock the Vote President Heather Smith and other special guests – “Plan to Rock!” will start at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 20, at the 9:30 Club, one of Washington DC’s premier music venues.

“As we inaugurate President Obama, we celebrate the people who are becoming a powerful new influence in our nation— young Americans,” said Richards.“This increasingly motivated group believes in access to quality health care, and has stood up time and time again with us to defeat attacks on women’s health care. We cannot imagine a better way to celebrate than with Rock the Vote, which does so much to build political power for young people, and with performances by Delta Rae and celebrity DJ Q-Tip.”

“Young people turned out to vote at record levels again in 2012, making up an ever greater share of the electorate than in 2008,” said Smith. “We are thrilled to celebrate the inauguration of President Obama and the growing power of this large and diverse generation with Planned Parenthood, an organization that works hard to include young people’s voice on critical issues.”

Tickets to “Plan to Rock!” will go on sale to the public at noon today here: www.930.com

During the 2012 election, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund launched an unprecedented effort to educate and mobilize women and young people during the last campaign. Planned Parenthood will continue to make sure young people’s voices are heard in the fight to ensure access to quality and affordable health care against continuing attacks in the state legislatures and Congress.

In 2012, Rock the Vote ran the largest non-partisan voter registration campaign in the country registering over a million voters. They fought to protect the right to vote of young people, and using on-the-ground efforts and online and mobile technology, engaged and mobilized millions to cast their ballot on election day.
